Our Story

It Started with two Questions

“Who should we talk to about this?”

“Is anyone doing this well?”

They were questions being asked by association professionals everywhere.

Founder Belinda Moore saw a pattern. Leaders across the sector were facing similar challenges, yet many were navigating them alone.

She believed there was a better way.

A place where association professionals could connect, learn from one another, share ideas, and tackle challenges together.

Alongside Angela Shelton, who helped bring that vision to life from the very beginning, the idea grew into Answers for Associations.

What started as a simple concept became a community built on connection, collaboration, and shared learning.

The name reflected exactly what people were looking for: answers, clarity, and support.

Where Connection Really Took Shape

One of the earliest experiences was the Association Leaders Retreat in Alice Springs, where association professionals came together to share ideas, tackle challenges, and learn from one another in a completely different way.

From the beginning, Belinda Moore and Angela Shelton believed traditional industry events were not the answer. So, they did things differently, bringing people together in the heart of the Red Centre.

No slide decks. No stage. No one talking at people for hours.

Instead, the experience was built around the people in the room, their challenges, their questions, and the things they were trying to solve back at work.

The retreat showed what was possible when association professionals were given the space to think differently, learn from one another, and have honest conversations.

That philosophy continues today, with Leaders Retreats still held in unique destinations that create space for fresh thinking, deeper conversations, and new ideas.

Connection That Keeps Going

When the world shut down, the need for connection only grew.

As conferences stopped and borders closed, Answers for Associations created an online community where association professionals could continue sharing ideas, supporting one another, and working through challenges in real time.

What began as a lifeline quickly became one of the strongest foundations of the organisation. Today, members continue to ask questions, share experiences, and help one another move forward because when knowledge is shared, everyone benefits.

As the community grew, it became clear that leaders also wanted opportunities for deeper connection. That's how the Association Leaders eXchanges were born. Smaller, more personal gatherings where real challenges are explored openly and questions turn into practical solutions.

What started with a question had become something much bigger: a community built on connection, collaboration, and shared learning.

Sharing Stories Beyond the Room

The conversations happening inside the community were too good to keep contained.

So, we created ways for those ideas to travel further.

The Associations Evolve Journal gives the sector a space to share bold thinking and practical insight, capturing stories that inspire action well beyond the event room. Published annually and read widely, it has become a trusted resource for leaders shaping strategy, sparking innovation, and rethinking what’s possible.

The Association Hub Podcast grew from the same place.

Hosted by Angela Shelton alongside Olena Lima, it’s a way to capture the conversations we were already having, honest, curious, sometimes funny, always real, and share them with more people. Through candid discussions with association leaders, the podcast brings forward the innovation, courage, and humanity shaping the sector.

The Next Chapter

Today, Answers for Associations continues to build on the legacy created by founder Belinda Moore.

Under the leadership of CEO Angela Shelton and Managing Director Lindsay McGrath, the mission remains unchanged: bringing association professionals together to share ideas, solve challenges, and explore what's next.

The chapter may be new, but the purpose remains the same.

Because the best answers are still found through connection.

It started with a question and became a community.
